THE CONGRESS OF THE ESULI GUELFI AND GHIBELLINI
WRONG TO SAN GODENZO IN THE YEAR 1302

The historical re-enactment of Dante Ghibellino in San Godenzo was born in 1991 and recalls the Conjunction of the Guelf and Ghibellines outbreaks in the San Godenzo Abbey in June 1302. The struggle cuts in Florence, between black guelphs on one side and white Guelfi and Ghibellines, all Begins with the expulsion of the latter from the city, with the death sentence in contempt of Dante, issued in January 1302 by the Florentine podestà, Cante Gabrielli da Gubbio. The Bianchi flee and with them Dante, who finds shelter with friends Conti Guidi in Casentino. Bianchi and Ghibellines, however, meditate on revenge and traverse to return to Florence, hence the convention in the choir of the Abbey of San Godenzo. Basically, the San Godenzo Conference took place in order to conclude an agreement between the noble families thrown out of Florence, with notorious rogue written by notary Ser Giovanni Buto d Ampinana (a document kept at the State Archives of Florence), to economically Ubaldini, Mugello lords, if they had an attack on Florence in their Castello di Monteaccianico
